Should You Pull For Boothill or Fu Xuan?

Pros and Cons for Boothill
Character Preview:
Boothill is a 5-star character in The Hunt path and deals Physical DMG.
He’s DPS-Type character that excels at dueling enemies. During a Duel, Boothill obtains a powerful ability and can obtain powerful buffs after winning the duel. Additionally his Ultimate and Technique can apply Physical Weakness one enemies.
As a DPS, one may think he wants the usual Crit Rate / Crit Damage ratio, but no. Boothill is super easy to build as he only needs Break Effect.
A sufficient Break Effect will make his Talent give his 30% Crit Rate and 150% Crit DMG (I know, very big). In other words, Thief of Shooting Meteor and Talia: Kingdom of Banditry are a few of the best sets for him. Although do note that we might be getting a new Relic set for Boothill in the future version.
From the showcase in the Creator Experience Server, we can tell that Boothill does HUGE damage. However, it comes with a price:
(1) Boothill needs to have 3 stacks of Pocket Trickshot > which you can get by defeating an enemy in the Standoff or the enemy becomes Weakness Broken
(2) His best supports; Ruan Mei and Harmony Trailblazer. These 2 give a lot of Break Effect and our cowboy needs it. Gallagher also helps a bit with his Ultimate that making enemies in the Besotted state takes more Break DMG. Bronya is also eligible as Boothill’s sidekick because of her ability to provide extra turns, which Boothill really benefits from (to stack his Pocket Trickshot).
(3) Even higher damage if the enemy is already Weakness Broken.
Overall, Boothill is a great Physical single-target DPS for the current roster, but remember that he’s a Hunt character = who deals single-target damage only. Some Trailblazers are not too fond of these types of DPS because Destruction (who can deal Blast damage) and Erudition are the characters you want to target in the current meta with the existence of Pure Fiction.
However, remember that there will be a new type of END GAME that will feature bosses instead of various mobs like in Pure Fiction. Although we didn’t have any sneak peek from the official account, it’s most probably a stage to make Hunt DPS shine like how Erudition characters massacre the Pure Fiction.
Pros and Cons for Fu Xuan
Character Preview:
Fu Xuan is a 5-star in Preservation path and deals Quantum DMG.
She is a defensive character who can reduce the damage taken by all allies, share DMG taken by other teammates, and increase the Crit Rate of all allies. When Fu Xuan’s HP is at a certain percentage, she will restore her HP.
For a Preservation character, Fu Xuan is the odd one out (in a good way) because instead of creating a shield like other Preservation characters, she activates the Matrix of Prescience = Damage that was dealt to party members will be received by Fu Xuan. Yes, her invisible shield does not block the damage, but transfers some of the damage from allies to herself.
In a game where dodging is frowned upon (we literally can’t do that), having a good healer or shielder is what we can do next. Fu Xuan is definitely on top of the meta because aside from soaking the damage, she can also heal (albeit minor), give an instance of CC protection, and a Crit Rate bonus to the whole team. Who doesn’t want that?
Unfortunately, there’s a downside to all that. As mentioned before, Fu Xuan soaks the damage, NOT blocks it. So if the enemy you’re facing dealt an extremely huge damage (like in Simulated Universe), Fu Xuan may not be able to face the damage head-on and may die on the spot after one shot before being able to activate the passive skill that heals herself.
Both featured characters have different jobs: One is a DPS while one is a shielder. Choosing one of them depends on whether you need a strong Physical DPS character or a support character to keep everyone alive (especially if you don’t have any other decent healer/shielder).
Boothill is a great DPS, but don’t forget that many DPS will keep coming – either Erudition, Destruction, or Hunt.
Meanwhile, Fu Xuan is one of the few great sustainers in the game, capable of bringing lots of benefits to the team, but only if you already have built DPS (because who gonna defeat the enemy if all you have is a supporter?).
